Kelly Lee is a Midwestern girl that never paid much attention to the cattle, corn and soybean fields growing up in Centralia, Illinois - until her older sister married a farmer! After years of visits to the farm, Kelly quickly learned that the farm is covered in brown goo!  And it was this farm in Salem, IL that became the inspiration for her first children’s book.

In 1994, Kelly moved to Murfreesboro, TN to attend Middle Tennessee State University.  She graduated Summa Cum Laude in 1997 with a Bachelor’s in Mass Communications.  In 2002, she moved to New York to work in the Beauty Industry.  After six years of traveling the Northeast USA and Eastern Canada, she moved back to the Nashville, TN area in 2008 to be closer to family and friends.  She now owns Kelly Lee Salon, located inside Tarola Plastic Surgery in Murfreesboro, TN.

In addition to writing children’s books, Kelly continues to grow her business and enjoys playing the piano, singing and writing music in her spare time.

Why Kelly Wrote The Book

One of Kelly’s favorite get-a-ways is visiting family in Southern Illinois.  Her Brother-In-Law’s farm is especially full of surprises.  At every turn, there was something stinky.  For years, Kelly would ask… “Does everything on the farm poop?”.   This phrase quickly became a family joke and Kelly always said it would make a great children’s book title!

After Kelly decided to turn her “joke” into a children’s book, she realized it would be a great tool to educate kids in a funny and entertaining way about farm life and how vital it is to our nation.  This story will help kids understand how animals live on the farm, where their food comes from, and how farming affects us ALL!
